The BarcaBreakdown discuss Joan Laporta’s comments before the Atletico game, in which Laporta said he has confidence in Koeman to continue as manager. Though FC Barcelona were defeated by Atletico and Barca legend Luis Suarez, Laporta’s comments made clear that Koeman’s job is not in jeopardy. Reports say that the two spoke recently and Koeman has reiterated his need for players to heal from injuries in order to improve the team. This is a startling development, as Laporta has been reported to not be confident in the manager since the summer. Lately, there had been an increase in rumors that Xavi, Pirlo, Roberto Martinez, or other coaches would come in to replace Koeman very soon. However, whether the issue is Barcelona's finances, the lack of replacement, or another reason (like Koeman offering a resignation if he continues to fail), Koeman seems to live another day with Barca. The Barca Breakdown discussed another loss, this time at the hands of Atletico Madrid. This 2-0 loss further proved Koeman is not the man to Lead Barca to win any trophies. Despite Barca not playing any Barca football, Laporta stated that Koeman will be trusted and kept on. We were left with further despair as we realized more dark times are coming. Barca’s lack of defensive capabilities left them exposed on counters multiple times in which Luis Suarez took advantage. “Swiss cheese” defense has taken Barca deeper in isolation as it caused frustration on the pitch between Pique and Busquets. We also discussed our lack of offensive creativity and identity. What is Barca’s Chief strategy on the pitch? Who is meant to lead the attack? What is Barca? After this game, Barca are #9 in La Liga and only predicted to fall lower. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss the awful 3-0 loss FC Barcelona experienced at the hands of Benfica at Estadio da Luz. Unfortunately, Barca were totally unprepared for the Champions League match and were embarassed, as Koeman strangely pursued a 3-5-2 lineup. We were upset, as Barca had done so well against Levante with a 4-3-3 using Mingueza as a RB. However, Koeman had other ideas, starting Erica Garcia, Pique, and Araujo as the 3 centerbacks. With a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich and Benfica, it is hard to believe that Koeman can survive much longer as the Barca manager. Laporta seems to clearly be ready to move on, however it is hard for us to figure out which options are available that can help turn around the ship. The Barca Breakdown discuss the results of Barca vs. Levante at the Camp Nou. Barca took 3 points, defeating Levante 3-0. Early, Depay won a penalty and scored for an early lead. Moving forward, Dest, acting as the left back in place of Alba, cut to the middle and delivered a ball for Luuk De Jong to score his first Barca goal. In the 81', Ansu Fati returned to the pitch for the first time in a year. In the first 9 minutes of his return, Fati took one to the back of the net, sealing a triumphant return as all had hoped. We further speak on improvements against Levante from the Cadiz and Granada games. These include better passing, more forward movement, and a fight to the end. Interestingly, this game showed Koeman away from the bench due to the red card against Cadiz, and assistant coach Alfred Schreuder was on the bench. We are very excited to see Fati perform well, and we will hopefully see Dembele, Aguero, and Braithwaite back with the team soon enough. Barca have some tough games coming up in the Champions League vs. Benfica, and against Atletico Madrid in La Liga. We need all fans to be in support of the team to see if we have a chance to win titles this season. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss the awful 1-1 draw of FC Barcelona against Granada at the Camp Nou. With another embarrassing performance from Koeman's team, we wonder how long Laporta will allow Koeman to continue coaching. An uninspired Barca performance was exemplified by the scenes of Ronald Araujo and Gerard Pique as strikers at the end of the game. Barca's defense let up the first goal of the game in minute 3, showing again that this team has no ability to stop the opposition from scoring. However, this game also showed the issues with the offense as FC Barcelona resorted to crosses and praying through the game, with Luuk De Jong, Depay, and Coutinho showing little firepower in an aerial game. Koeman again complained about the lack of talent on this team with so many injuries and so many young players starting. However, with stars like Frenkie De Jong, Depay, Coutinho, Busquets and more playing, it is hard to believe that Koeman's team cannot do more against Granada at the Camp Nou. The list of possible coaches Laporta may look to are: • Xavi Hernández • Andrea Pirlo • Antonio Conte • Marcelo Bielsa • Erik Ten Hag Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The Barca Breakdown discusses Barca’s first Champions League game against Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou. Without Fati, Dembele or Aguero, our attack was depleted and all Barca fans knew that this Bayern team were better with Lewandowski and Co. Yusef’s skepticism predicted a 5-1 loss, while Adam’s false hope predicted a 3-2 loss. Despite the ill faith, Barca failed to put one in the back of the net at home and allowed 3 goals. Barca’s first quarter performance was impressive, with good ball movement, possession, and open space. This all changed when Muller scored off a deflection of Eric Garcia, leaving Ter Stegen helpless. The rest of the game is slowly turned downwards as Koeman's Barca seemed to have little tactical planning to deal with Bayern in an effective way. This comes from a failure of slowness and a lack of creativity from Roberto and Luuk De Jong. While the score line was not flattering, some stand out performances from Ter Stegen, Araujo, and Frenkie De Jong were only visible on the pitch. Along those lines, Coutinho appeared in his first game back after a long injury and loan to show he was still capable of taking chances. It was nice to see some youngsters (Gavi, Demir, Balde) and get some play time for the future of Barca. Ultimately, we question what could have happened if we had a healthy squad with the likes of Dembele, Fati, Depay (and Aguero) in the front. Even if we had these star players to bolster our attacking potential, would Koeman have been tactical enough to utilize these players to their full potential in the barca style? This is a question we can track as the season continues and our squad reaches a healthier status. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss the first game of FC Barcelona’s Champions League conquest, beginning with a match at the Camp Nou on Tuesday, September 14th! Bayern will be coming to Spain after just defeating RB Leipzig 4-1. Unfortunately, the international break has not been the kindest to Barca again, with Sergino Dest injured and possibly Jordi Alba. Furthermore, Braithwaite may have some knee discomfort so Luuk De Jong may play (yet he hasn’t had much time on the team). The Barca Breadkdown discusses if our defense can hold back the Bayern attack. This leaves us questioning, with our injuries, if Koeman will play a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2. Either choice, we can’t help but have our doubts about Koeman’s tactical abilities. Will he choose a good line-up, will he have a plan, and lastly, will he make intelligent subs. Of course we cannot forget the attacking capabilities of Lewandowski, Muller, & Davies. The tactical mindset of Julian Nagelsmann has proven to be great in Bundesliga and the Champions League. The BarcaBreakdown discuss the injuries to Sergino Dest and Jordi Alba on international duty, Memphis Depay's Hat Trick for the Netherlands, and Gerard Pique speaking out against Bartomeu. International break has been a plague for FC Barcelona recently. During this break, it seems Sergino Dest and Jordi Alba have both sustained injuries on their national teams. These injuries could not have come at a worst time. Barcelona already has a decent list of injured players (namely Fati, Dembele, Aguero, and Pique) who will not be ready for the HUGE game against Bayern Munich. This is the first game of the Champions League Group Stages. We all know what occurred last we met Bayern (8-2). Barca generally have trouble with providing width for the team but with both wings injured we may have to rely on the likes of Roberto, Mingueza, and Balde. This will affect us on the defensive and offensive side leaving us susceptible to attacks and a lack of open play. Hopefully Koeman can create a game plan to accommodate our deficiencies and accordingly. In other International news, Memphis Depay has scored his first hattrick for the Netherlands international team. The newly acquired Dutchman has shown extraordinary promise at Barca during preseason and the beginning of this season. Barca need a player of his caliber and scoring ability to keep them in the race for La Liga and in the long shot for Champions League. Lastly, Pique (the voice of the people) has come out and expressed his distaste for our previous President, Bartomeu. Pique has stated he has not known all the presidents of Barca, but he must be the worst or at the very least, up there. This scrutiny comes after many senior players on Barca have taken pay cuts and many players (Messi and Greizmann included) have left Barca to adjust for the financial difficulties the club has been facing. Rightfully so, Bart has been criticized for his absurd contracts and mismanagement of the team. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss how FC Barcelona have decided on their new #10 to follow Lionel Messi, Ansu Fati! The young La Masia star who has stolen our hearts. Having just recently been cleared to return to play, Fati now bears the weight of the #10 jersey. We discuss the pros and cons of Fati taking on this role. In similar news, the leaving of Griezmann left the #7 jersey which allowed Ousmane Dembele to take his old Dortmund jersey #7. The Breakdown also discusses Umtiti’s talks with Laporta in which he says he felt he hadn’t had the care he needed and wanted to prove his worth at Barcelona. Reports are Laporta wants Koeman to utilize Umtiti (as well as Puig) after these discussions. Speaking of Ronald Koeman, Pjanic who has just left to Besiktas, had some major criticism of the manager. He states that Koeman would not face him or come to practices for players who did not get game time. Suggesting a failure as manager to help his team improve. Lastly, reports have emerged claiming the Barca board has said Koeman is the ideal coach for Barca and will stay. A confusing statement for how the last season and this season have been going. We have questioned in the past Koemans strategies (or lack thereof) and how anything that has been done is ideal. Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! The BarcaBreakdown discuss, in a turn of events, after two years at FC Barcelona, Antoine Greizmann returned to Atletico Madrid. This comes at the final window of the transfer window on 31 Aug 2021. Barca agreed to release Greizmann on loan for $10 Million and an obligation to buy for $40 Million. We discuss what this means for the team and our initial reactions to this news.
Ultimately, Barcelona’s financial troubles and disastrous leadership of Bartomeu have plagued the team resulting in some very surprising news. At the end of the day, Laporta has been losing our trust as we question his election promises and where we are today.
Greizmann will join the 2019-2020 La Liga Champions with Luis Suarez in an attempt to take the title 2 years in a row.
Another Dutchman arrives at FC Barcelona from Sevilla, Luuk De Jong. Barca will cover his wages with an option to buy. This comes when we lose Greizmann and still have a roster of attackers on injury including Augero, Dembele, and not yet to return to live play, Fati.
Lastly, we had Ilaix Moriba and Emerson depart and signed to RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspurs, respectively. Ilaix has been on his way out and will be leaving for $15 Million. Emerson only being at the club for 2 months comes at a surprise as Laporta had stated “Emerson will stay for many years”. The summer transfer window has come to an end, again leaving Barca and the fans wondering, what will happen next?
